The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), along with the Local Authorities (LA) are responsible for enforcing health and safety legislation in Great Britain. Together they ensure that duty holders manage the health and safety of their workforce and those affected by their work. They achieve this by providing advice and guidance on what the law requires, conducting inspections and investigations, and taking enforcement action where appropriate.
In June 2009 HSE launched its new Strategy, ‘The Health and Safety of Great Britain - Be part of the solution’, representing a clear statement of core principles and a sensible approach to health and safety. The Strategy sets out key goals intended to renew the momentum to improve health and safety performance, including encouraging strong leadership, involving the workforce, creating healthier, safer workplaces, and customising the support we give to small and medium sized companies.
